Powerplant- What Gives You Energy?
Directed and edited by:
Lucia Westphal, Miina Barrera Pinochet, Gahee Chung
2023
People breathe in and out…
The power plant burns and emits...
Earth and plants breathe, absorb and transform...
The video project is inspired by the intertwining of nature and man - natural and artificial coexistence. The idea comes from the English term powerplant, which literally means an energy power station, while the word plant also means vegetation. This is an interesting twist of language that we would like to explore further.
The work is inspired by the Kassel power station and the nearby overgrown forest valley.

After the first video, the project is currently on pause, but will continue. The next step is to visit the Kassel power station inside, which will soon start producing energy from sewage sludge.
The video piece has been screened at "Roaminale #3" at Roam gallery in Berlin in 2024; and at the exhibition "Guilty of Cardboard Pleasures" Hafenstrasse 76 in Kassel, 2023.
