FROM DECAY TO GROWTH
|
I watch the forest, witness clear-cuttings, observe what flourishes and what withers, what decays into soil, and the waste that remains. I try to understand this system. I approach the landscape and see a body. As the body grows, processes take place, regardless of whether the elements there are destroyed on their own initiative or by others. But the soil absorbs the old and new growth begins, everything that has happened is recorded in the soil and transmitted as information to the emerging plants taking root. As a result, the soil layers grow, not knowing whether they are improving or disappearing. Will humanity ever reach the status of the primeval forest, or will the cycle of collapse persist, with the happiest phase being simply to become a thicket?

The painting series got its initial impulse from the observation of how common spheres arise in social groups as well as in friendship and partnership. How do people behave in groups or individually. What is the atmosphere that unites or divides us? At what point does the surrounding influence become a shared experience or at what point does one influence become strongly dominant, taking over the weaker of its field of influence?
