Looping videos
2 Paintings, wall color on wallpaper, dimensions around 200x500 cm
During a two-month period I made videoshoots on an old crumbling foundation, exploring that place as a metaphor and applying its meaning to myself. I created two large scale wallpaper paintings for the backing of the videos, one of them depicting a wall, the other one depicting the ground. I presented the videos on a screen that was placed between the two panoramic paintings.
The foundation is the basis of the house, keeping it together. Without the foundation, the house would collapse. One cannot build a sturdy house if the foundation is weak. But how can I tell which materials are the most durable? How can I know what would prevent a collapse. And not just temporarily but for ages. The quality of the building blocks can always be questioned. I might believe that now I am well and together, but one day I could still find out that the grout that I used to patch myself together, has fallen off, and I had been deceiving myself all along.
